New Joint, New Location, New Name (maybe)

A trip to Popeye's yield a pleasant surprise: A new joint called the Rib Shack is hiring for an upcoming opening. The address is 8642 Natural Bridge just west of Hanley.

Mi Hungry, home of BBQ & Jamacian cuisene, has a new place just west of I-170 at 8660St. Charles Rock Road.

Finally, driving by the old De's Best Q4U saw the place with a new sign in the parking lot - Mama Jennies. I don't know if it's new owners or just a new name.

Pappy's Branching Out

Three people sent me news of this - the first from Atlanta.

Skip & Niki will be running a Pappy's spin-off down in Soulard where Fat Toney's used to be. The best news: they're planning to add rib tips to the menu.

Flavors BBQ Sports Bar and Grill

A Friday lunch with Matt & Steve found us in The Grove to try out Flavors, one of the newer additions to the St. Louis BBQ scene.

Ample parking for the space & a bright, friendly decor greeted us. I'd say the place seats 50 or so, split about half & half between tall tables and bar seating.

I went for the rib tips of course but they were out. Both Steve & I ended up with the brisket & Matt went for the pulled pork. The meat was tender but not very smoky-flavored. There was minimal rub but the table sauce was excellent - a nice tomato flavor with a mild kick and a tasty tang.

The sandwich comes with your choice of bread and the Texas Toast worked great to hold the sauce. Everyone raved about the sides. I had the baked beans & the other guys loved the sweet potato fries.

I got out of there for $10 including tip (no drink). We all agreed we'd go back though the joint's proximity to Pappy's may hurt its business.
